Hey all-
Glad to see the offseason and free agency in full swing! The activity in bidding and in GroupMe has been fantastic lately so please keep it up as the 2021 MLB season is fast approaching!
I wanted to propose a change to the way we handle rosters for this season and beyond
First off, one thing is already in place - you will now keep your entire 40-man roster on Fantrax. Your 26 active players (up from 25 to match what real MLB is doing) will be in your lineup or on your bench while your 14 inactive players (AKA the 40-man roster on the Docs) will remain in your Minors on Fantrax (highlighted in green)
And now for a change I would really like to see but want some input on:
Right now, our roster rules are a bit convoluted and very tedious to track. You are allowed to send down a specific player to your 40-man roster up to four times in a season (carries over thru trades) and allowed a total of six demotions of scale year (1) players to the minors for the entire season for your individual franchise
I propose that we nix the first half of that rule with the 40-man demotions and instead put in place a system where your active 26 player roster will lock every new matchup (almost always Monday with a few exceptions) before first pitch of the first game that day. No need to announce anything, just be sure your Fantrax aligns with the Docs (or that it will when your Proboards post is updated). The only way you can make a change during the matchup is if you place a player on your DL (which means they went on the IRL DL or got suspended) or if you make a transaction. In this scenario, we would expand the DL from two to five. A player being placed on the MLB DL is not enough to be replaced during the week - you must place them on your team's DL. If your team's DL is full, you'll be stuck without being allowed to make a change. The other way to make a midweek change is a transaction which boils down to a signing, waiver claim, release, or trade. If you sign or claim someone, you may replace anyone on your active roster with that newly acquired player at any time during the week. If you release someone on your active roster, you may replace them with someone on your 40-man. And finally if you make a trade, you may replace any traded away players. You must first replace them with acquired players (if they are in the majors, of course) and if that does not get you to 26, then you may choose player(s) from your 40-man. If you send more than you receive, you may replace from your 40-man. And if you receive more than you send, you may choose which players you want to keep on your active and send the rest to your 40-man
The main reason I want this to be in place is that it will be a LOT easier for me to handle. I will no longer need to track demotions and the vast majority of roster transactions will take place on Mondays instead of all throughout the week. Also, it will be very easy for me to ensure everyone is following these rules with their Fantrax rosters
