I like this deal because Price is only locked up for one year. He may or may not resign so it was risky. On the other hand I get two good prospects in Wisler in Peterson which is good because my far system was pretty weak. That 1st is worth a lot and I get Ian Kennedy for 2 years. Good deal man.

a possible one year rental. every team talking about trading for him wants an extension as part of the deal.  Even then, he'd be franchised, so a 5 year deal after both.

Veto. Kennedy is mediocre these days, and while the specs are good in general, Price requires top MLB prospects, not a top (Wisler) and good (Peterson) Padres prospect. If there was no franchise tag ruling I'd probably let this by but you could get way more for 3+ (+ if he signs in real life to a big deal) years of Price.

Approve. I have no problem with this, Wisler is an extremely underrated prospect. He is consistently ranked 30-50 range, that's where Wacha was last year. Pitching in Petco is always a plus too. Kennedy did relatively well as a Padre last year, he isn't shit, he's a decent replacement. The Padres 2014 1st is relatively high, and Peterson isn't half bad. Price after this year will be extremely expensive whether it is franchise or extension.

I'm going to put the nail in the coffin here. I think that Price has too much control left (this year plus 2 sets of 2 FT years) if he doesn't sign an extension which is actually extremely likely. Kennedy pitched well in Petco (4-2, 3.06 ERA, .223 BAA in 8 starts over 47 IP), however he should not be the centerpiece of the deal for an ace. He has a career ERA of 4.00 and the 21 win, sub-3.00 ERA season is long behind him. I think that there needs to be a solid overhaul in the deal here, at least from my perspective, to get it done.
