2018 Rule Change 2: Compensation for Player Deaths

Over recent years, we have seen the tragic and untimely deaths of several MLB players and prospects. We have never had a rule in place for how to compensate owners for this loss, however. I think we should, as it will streamline the process and make things more fair.

Personally, I propose that we provide one type of compensation for prospects with an increased comp for Top 100 prospects (we can choose one list to base this off of). For MLB players, I think it should be based on some kind of player rater or scale formula that somehow dictates value, maybe even a list of best players based on current and future value (ESPN usually has one yearly). However, a uniform system of comp for all prospects and one for all players is definitely a possibility. 

This poll is to serve as a vote to see which direction the league wants to go in. Please, post discussions, arguments, etc. down below to create a healthy debate over how we want to shape this rule.

Also of note, we will be retroactively applying this compensation to players who have died since the league's inception but did not receive compensation. I will collect a list of those players soon, but off the top of my head Victor Sanchez (MIN), Donny Everett (WAS), and Oscar Taveras (STL) went uncompensated while Jose Fernandez (MIA) and Yordano Ventura (ATL) received compensation based on my discretion, but if we decide to increase the comp they will receive the difference.

Can we not do a "one system for all prospects, value standing for mlb players"?

I voted no compensation for two reasons: #1 because it retroactively applies #2 I just don't feel a team needs to be compensated for the death of a player. The death of a player is a sudden unexpected tragedy. Unfortunately, it is a part of the game and we must deal with it. There is no doubt a team may be hurt by it if the player is more significant but it's just the type of thing you have to work around. Are we going to compensate teams for losing players due to other reasons like Kang? Olivera? etc. I wouldn't recommend starting compensating players for death because there will be other unexpected events that lead those team to request compensation as well.

I can't edit the poll, but if you haven't voted yet I would say vote for one of the last two since it is closest to what you're getting at and then we can raise that question when/if it wins.
